Chris Gore: Biography

I think it is interesting to think about my own life history in an analytical fashion sometimes, so I wrote a short biography of myself. This is short, and in chronological order. Chronologies are interesting things, and can be a useful tool to aid thought. You should consider doing the same: it can help you to consider things in their proper perspective sometimes.

December 8, 1978
I was born to Charles Marvin Gore and Carolyn Marie Gore (née Ruppel) in Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland is an interesting city: it had Jerry Springer as a mayor and a major river catch on fire. Cleveland is commonly referred to as the Mistake on the Lake, but never forget that Cleveland Rocks! (not really). We actually lived in Parma, a suburb of Clevelend.
November 1981
My family moves from Ohio to Altamonte Springs, Florida, a suburb of Orlando. My sister was only six weeks old at the time.
September 1983
My family moves to Saint Louis, Missouri.
May 1984
We move to the rural outskirts around Troy, Illinois, a suburb of Saint Louis. We actually had a Saint Jacob mailing address even though we were much closer to Troy.
Fall 1995 -- Spring 1997
I worked as the computer lab assistant at Alton Catholic Children's Home in Alton, Illinois.
Summer 1997 -- Summer 2000, Spring 2001
I attended Belleville Area College located in Belleville, Illinois, which eventually renames itself Southwestern Illinois College, and eventually receive an AS in computer science with a 3.11/4 GPA. I was active in the campus chapter (Theta Epsilon) of Phi Theta Kappa while there, serving as a vice president.
Summer 1998 -- Summer 2000
I worked as a computer lab assistant for the Mathematics Department at Belleville Area College, which eventually changed its name to Southwestern Illinois College.
2000
I worked at the startup Innovative Internet Ideas, Inc. in Columbia, Illinois. We were attempting to make a full-featured web portal called Details.at and I had a percentage of the company, but it never went anywhere. I made a lot of really good friends through it though, and learned a lot about how to not run a company. Hopefully I will get another shot at it.
September 2000 -- January 2001
I attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, studying for a B.S. in engineering physics. I don't exactly make a steller student there for several reasons, and leave two weeks into my second semester.
February -- May 2001
I worked at Publication Services, Inc. as a programmer in Champaign, Illinois, mostly doing LaTeX, whose name I cannot render correctly here.
Fall 2001 -- Summer 2003
I attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois for my B.S. in mathematics and computer science, with a 3.32/4 GPA.
Summer 2003
I worked as an intern in the Unix Systems Group, part of the Information Technology Services at Eastern Illinois University, under John "Kahn" Koontz.
January 2004 -- December 2006
I attended the University of Missouri -- Rolla in Rolla, Missouri for my M.S. in computer science. My thesis was in evolutionary computation, applied to the prediction of market dynamics. My thesis advisor was Dr. Daniel Tauritz. I was involved in the Council of Graduate Students while at UMR, eventually becoming treasurer. I also was involved in the local campus chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, where I eventually become vice-president, although I was only active in that role for one semester.
June 18, 2004
I go on my first date with Monica, to the Saint Louis Zoo. The Saint Louis Zoo is free to all for general admission and is actually one of the nicest zoos in the country. If you are ever in the Saint Louis area, consider checking it out after you go up the Arch.
June -- August 2005
I worked as an enumerator for the Unites States Bureau of the Census in the special census of the city of Collinsville, Illinois. I did this primarily to purchase Monica's engagement ring.
March -- November 2006
I worked at 21st Century Systems, Inc. in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri as an associate scientist.
May 27, 2006
I get married to Monica Louise Gore (née Smith) at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Troy, Illinois.
May 28 -- June 2, 2006
We go on our honeymoon to The French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana (which still exists, in case you were wondering).
December 4, 2006
I start work at Astronautics Corporation of America in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a software verifier. I work as a contractor through National Software Associates. We rent out a room from Kyle Frasier in Milwaukee. Astronautics makes software and hardware for military and civilain aircraft, and there is even a little piece of Astronautics in the Space Shuttle. I worked on the Boeing 777 Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) for about two weeks before they realized that I knew Python and then they moved me over to the Airbus A400M Integrated Network Server Unit (INSU) project.
June 2007
I get promoted to software development from software verification at Astronautics. We move to Oak Creek, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. Kevin Granade, a coworker of mine, splits a three-bedroom upper with us there.
July 2007
We become members of Memorial Lutheran Church in Glendale, Wisconsin. We had been attending for a while, and were introduced to the church by Kyle and his parents.
September 4, 2007
I become a direct-hire employee at Astronautics. I had previously been a contractor.
